The Failure Called “Full Ownership”

One of the strategies we see employed routinely by many companies (such as Linden Lab) is something called "Full Ownership". Under the aegis of Full Ownership, the management team .. and sometimes specific individuals within that team .. work tirelessly to bring the entire Product into their own sphere of control. This can include design, development, production, sales and anything else that contributes to the life-cycle of the Product. Today's post presents a real-life experience from my past, then glues that on top of LL's current trajectory in an attempt to explain why the CEO is on the road to screwing himself to the wall.
